Local Activities
The former county town of Monmouth is in a strategically important location at the head of the lower Wye Valley, and gives quick access to both the M4 and the M50.
There are two very good golf courses within easy reach, which are free of charge for our guests. The rivers which run past the town are renowned for coarse and salmon fishing, and the beautiful surrounding countryside provides excellent walks.
Theatres in Cardiff, Newport, Hereford, Birmingham, and Bristol are all within an hour's drive, and provide an excellent variety of entertainment from the world-renowned Welsh National Opera, touring ballet and theatre companies, to jazz and rock concerts.
Canoeing & Kayaking
The River Wye is one of the most picturesque in the UK and offers outstanding
canoeing and kayaking for beginners and more experienced paddlers. A range of
centres operate along the Wye offering a complete hire service, guided tours and
more.

Walking
The hardest thing about giving our visitors some suggestions on walking in the
surrounding areas is that there are just so many lovely walks to choose from!
The Wye Valley, Forest of Dean and Brecon Beacons are all within a short drive
of Steppes Farm and offer some superb walks.
